Irish Aid, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, now seeks applications from suitably qualified persons to join the humanitarian Rapid Response Corps. The Rapid Response Corps is a standby roster of highly skilled and experienced experts available to deploy at short notice to humanitarian emergencies anywhere in the world. When deployed, roster members fill specific skills gaps identified by four Irish Aid standby partner organisations: the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Deployments usually last between 3-6 months. The Corps currently comprises 83 experts with humanitarian experience and specialized skills, for example, in nutrition, water and sanitation, humanitarian coordination and engineering. This year we are particularly seeking information management, education, and cash transfer experts, and those with additional language skills (French, Arabic). In 2017, our experts provided more than 4,000 days of critical support to our UN partners’ humanitarian responses in 14 crises including in the Horn of Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria and Bangladesh.
